PROM – Short-Term Academic Exchange Programme

The PROM – Short-Term Academic Exchange Programme enables students and university staff to gain knowledge and skills in an international environment, which participants can apply at various stages of their professional development. It also helps Polish universities and research institutions establish and strengthen cooperation with partner organisations abroad.

The PROM Project aims to enhance the competencies of students, PhD students, and staff of the AGH University of Krakow through short-term academic exchanges. The project is implemented by the Centre for International Affairs in cooperation with the AGH University Doctoral Students' Council, ESN AGH University of Krakow, the AGH University Students' Council, and the AGH University Students Research Groups' Council. 

As one of 34 universities awarded funding, AGH’s project has received financial support from the European Union under the initiative “Short-Term Academic Exchange as a Means of Improving the Quality of Education in Higher Education and Research Institutions” (Project No. FERS.01.05-IP.08-0218/23). The allocated budget of 967 000 PLN provides for the implementation of 80 mobility exchanges.

Project Activities

The PROM project will fund 80 short-term mobilitiesaimed at improving the skills of students, doctoral candidates, and academic staff from AGH University and its partner institutions. These activities include:

  • active participation in international conferences (including presentations and poster sessions),
  • obtaining materials for doctoral dissertations or scientific articles,
  • participation in summer or winter schools,
  • conducting measurements using unique research equipment or testing specialised research or artistic instruments,
  • participation in short educational formats such as courses (including intensive ones recognised within study programmes), workshops, professional or industrial internships, and study visits, including those organised by enterprises,
  • teaching academic courses,
  • participation in preparing international grant proposals.

Exchanges-based outbound mobilities are expected to last between 5 and 14 days.  

Project aims

  • improve the qualifications and competences of project participants through internships, study trips, teaching activities, summer schools, and other activities related to research and development work,
  • improve the quality of education at AGH University of Krakow with the aim of improving the competences and expanding the knowledge of teaching staff in the field of new teaching methods and techniques,
  • recruting and educating outstanding doctoral students from abroad,
  • adapting the study program offer to the current needs and expectations of the foreign education sector,
  • strengthening the position of AGH in the international education space by developing cooperation with foreign universities and institutions of global renown, through visits by staff from Partner Universities,
  • developing scientific projects and student self-government by involving representatives of URSD, URSS, ESN, and RKN in the creation of proposals,
  • supporting the professional development of students and PhD students by enabling them to participate in summer schools, internships, and international conferences, thanks to which they improve their professional competences and soft skills,
  • strengthening the scientific position of AGH by increasing the number of research grants carried out in scientific consortia with the best foreign universities or internationalizing the scientific staff,
  • internationalizing research through the participation of university scientists in the editorial boards of international scientific journals, especially prestigious and highly rated ones.

Project outcomes

  • development of specialist skills by students, PhD students, and employees of AGH University of Krakow and Partner Universities,
  • acquisition of specialist knowledge and skills by mobility participants,
  • improvement of language skills,
  • improvement of soft skills in the areas of cultural differences, stress management, creativity, and teamwork - enabling the establishment and strengthening of cooperation between AGH scientists and foreign staff,
  • supporting the development of student and doctoral careers in the public and private sectors through internships, trips, etc.,
  • promoting planned and ongoing scientific projects and solutions that can be commercialized, as well as teaching potential and laboratory facilities,
  • opportunity for scientific publications and international grants.
